Traditional ink wash on paper mounted to silk.

Scroll 1 (Left): Buddhist sutra text rendered in gold characters on a rich brown-gold ground, creating a luminous effect. This appears to be a section of scripture written in formal kaisho (regular script) style. Mounted on plain tan silk, showing some age and wear.

Scroll 2 (Center): Misty mountain landscape with Mount Fuji-like peak emerging from clouds, with sparse vegetation and distant water in the foreground. Multiple calligraphic inscriptions and poems scattered across the composition. Signed "Suishinshi" (推信子) with red seal. Mounted on gold-tan silk with decorative brocade borders.

Scroll 3 (Right): Kachō-ga (bird-and-flower painting) depicting a butterfly hovering above chrysanthemums rendered in ink and light color on paper. Accompanied by poetic inscription. Signed "Sōsai" (草斎) with red seal. Mounted on brown-gold silk with decorative border.

All three scrolls are stored in bamboo cases (tomobako) with calligraphic inscriptions. The works span different artistic traditions—religious, landscape, and nature subjects—likely dating from the 19th to early 20th century with varying states of preservation.

Variable sizes, approximately up to 4 ft high by up to 30 in wide. Total weight is approximately 3 lbs.

Condition

Discoloration throughout. Some foxing. Scratches and scuffs. Holes from insects. Some lift between material layers. Creasing throughout calligraphy scroll.
