Highlights include Mid to Late 20th Century Los Angeles art and a large collection of antique Arts & Crafts Batchelder tiles coming out of the long term storage of a Los Angeles tile company. The modern LA art selection features works by established artists including Allen Ruppersberg, a conceptual artist known for his text-based pieces and institutional critique, represented here with multiple silkscreen works from the 1980s including the "True or False, For or Against" series and Colby Poster projects. The collection also includes Eric K. Fiazi's abstract expressionist paintings, bronze sculptures by Annette Bird and Marian Weisberg, and a large 7' Waterfall sculpture by Paul Chilkov. We are thrilled to offer an extensive collection of Batchelder Arts & Crafts tiles. One of Southern California's most important ceramic arts legacies, Ernest Batchelder produced these handcrafted terracotta tiles starting in 1909 in his Arroyo Seco kiln, and this auction features a remarkable array of over 1,000 pieces including rare decorative motifs, functional bathroom fixtures like toothbrush holders and towel racks, corner tiles, and border pieces. All tile lots have an opening bid of $10, offering collectors the chance to acquire everything from individual decorative pieces to enough material for restoration projects.
