Gordon Newell’s personal scrapbook related to his spear heading bringing the liner to Seattle as a hotel for the 1962 World’s Fair. Contains a large amount of newspaper clippings, advertisements, photographs and ephemera pertaining to the QSMV Dominion Monarch ship. From the collection of maritime historian, Gordon Newell (1912-1991), author of Ocean Liners of the 20th Century, and a past Commissioner of the Port of Seattle (1960-1963) where he played an instrumental role in bringing the Shaw Savill Lines’ 1939 Dominion Monarch to Seattle to serve as a floating hotel ship for the city’s Century 21 Exposition in 1962. Newell’s collection was acquired directly from his daughter.
