Handmade model ship built by Gordon Newell (1912-1991), on base with acrylic case. Case is removable and sits around base. From the personal collection of maritime historian, Gordon Newell, author of Ocean Liners of the 20th Century, and a past Commissioner of the Port of Seattle (1960-1963) where he played an instrumental role in bringing the Shaw Savill Lines’ 1939 Dominion Monarch to Seattle to serve as a floating hotel ship for the city’s Century 21 Exposition in 1962. Newell’s collection was acquired directly from his daughter. Purchased partially completed. Tom Nicolai finished and rigged to light.
