Classic Midcentury Modern sculpture by renowned artist Val Welman. Solid cast aluminum abstract atop a geometric wood background. No signature. Dimensions: Sculpture is approx. 46 in H x 68 in W x 8 in D.

Artist Val Welman (1921-2013) created paintings, drawings, and sculptures. 
Born in Oklahoma, Welman moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he painted his first watercolors of the desert. He studied at Phoenix Junior College, Arizona State University, and the Art Center School in Pasadena, California. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Denver in 1952 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1954. He was a veteran of World War II (1939-45) and served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946, where he was commissioned to do drawings of military installations for General McArthur's headquarters. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he taught from 1954 to 1983.

Condition

Some minor surface wear, scuffs and scratches. One piece of wood is separate from sculpture and mounts to the wall independently. Some drywall/cement residue on screws.
